Uniquely captivating and full of textural appeal, the Petrified Wood Box features simple lines and an organic shape. This box is made of petrified wood that is around 6 to 20 million years old.
Petrified wood is the result of a tree that has completely been transitioned to stone by the process of permineralization. The petrifaction process occurs underground when wood becomes buried under sediment and is initially preserved due to a lack of oxygen which inhibits aerobic decomposition. Mineral-laden water flowing through the sediment deposits minerals in the plant’s cells; as the plant’s lignin and cellulose decay a stone mold forms in its place.
This box will have natural variations in colors between products.
